Band Students
After taking band for the past 6 years, I have noticed a difference between myself now and myself before band. Through band I have gained confidence, teamwork skills, and responsibility.
Through band, I have gained confidence for my other classes when I have to speak in front of people and speak my opinions. Band has helped me with this when having to play solos or when just my section has to play. Without having confidence in band, when it came time to play an important part that only a section has, we play it right instead of being nervous and slipping up. Without confidence in band, the parts we have to play may not even get played. Confidence is one important virtue that is learned in band.
Teamwork is another skill I have learned in band, helping me to work together when there is group work in a class. In band, there is a requirement that every player has to work together to make the music sound as good as it can. If there is no teamwork in band then things would sound much worse with people playing at different times and notes clashing instead of flowing smoothly as one. Playing together in band to perfect a piece of music is like working together in a group to complete a project. Teamwork is another important lesson off band.
To be a member of the band comes with responsibility to the band, the audience, and yourself, if you don’t lift your own weight, then you let the whole band down. This is similar to when in other classes when you have homework or a test to study for, you have a reasonability to do it, and if you don’t, you get bad grades. If you don’t take care of your responsibilities you hurt what you hurt what ever you were responsible for.
